
Lunugamwehera is a village in the southern province, Hambantota district, which can be accessed from Matara -Ampara main road it is situated 8KM away from the Weerawila junction.
The Lunugamwehera reservoir brings our village pride. It’s a remarkable landmark in the area. This massive reservoir has been built by erecting an enormous dam across the Kirindi Steam. Obviously this incomplete reservoir brings grandeur to the Hambantota district .
Our area is noble and blessed territory of God Skanda. Tissamaharamaya and Kirinda are the other sacred towns in the neighborhood. The Yala national park which is world famous because of its animal population is in the vicinity.
Lunugamwehera population is comprised of people who have moved in different parts of the island .Nomatter they came from different socio economical and geographical back grounds, they live in perfect harmony in Lunugamwehera.This solidarity can be clearly observed within the community work.
The main livelihood of the inhabitants here is agriculture. They not only provide the country with staple food rice, they also support the national economy with banana cultivation and Chane cultivation.
